Savusavu Yacht Club was inaugurated in 1990 and has won the majority of Fiji National sailing championships since its inception. The club sails Lasers and Optimist dinghies. A number of Savusavu Sailors have represented Fiji in the Pacific Games and Olympic Games.
The yacht club is located at the Copra Shed Marina and has its own facility adjacent to the marina. Savusavu has hosted record numbers of visiting yachts with over 100 yachts in the harbour at one time. The club has provided local youths the opportunity to learn sailing with the prospect to entering into the Olympics. Savusavu Yacht Club is aiming to have available 2 Merlin 22 foot yachts for match racing and adult learn to sail classes. Each Saturday 15 to 20 local children come to sail and race with Roberta Lepper, ex Olympic sailor coaching.
In order to achieve the goal of purchasing more boats and to make repairs on the existing boats, Savusavu Yacht Club has embarked on a fund raising campaign, offering discounted International memberships to any who wish to join us in both this endeavor for the benefit of our youth and the camaraderie with our established members. Each membership comes with a Savusavu Yacht Club member card and the key to opening the door to the Savusavu Yacht Club clothing and gear shop.
